Becoming a Volunteer

If you are interested in volunteering at Encircle, we encourage you to get to know us! You can do this by signing up for a tour, learning about the events at your local Encircle, or visiting our Instagram and Facebook

Encircle is more than just a safe space for LGBTQ+ youth & their families.
It’s a community.

How do I become a volunteer?

  • Register and create a profile on our volunteer website.

Please note that most volunteer opportunities listed require two hours a week for at least six months.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to apply.

  • Tell us more about yourself by answering the questions in our application form.

  • An Encircle Team member will reach out to you about potential next steps. Sometimes, they schedule an interview to ask follow-up questions about your application.

Due to the high volume of applications received, this process may take a few weeks.

  • All applicants must perform a background check to ensure the safety of the youth, young adults, and families we serve.

  • All volunteer applicants will need to review and sign the Volunteer Contract. A Media Release Form must also be reviewed and signed, whether or not you are providing consent.

  • Once all the necessary steps have been completed, the last step will be to watch our Volunteer Training videos. Additional virtual or in-person training may be required for some positions.

What do volunteers do?

We have a handful of positions available for our volunteers, and most involve interacting with our guests and providing support for them.

Programs Support Volunteer

They work alongside the Home Staff, providing aid and assistance where it is needed throughout the home.

They create meaningful connections with guests at the home and ensure that everyone who comes to Encircle has a welcoming experience.

In addition, doing things like welcoming and supervising guests during our drop-in hours, helping keep the home safe and clean throughout the day, and helping visitors understand and access Encircle’s services.

The time commitment for this position is 2.5 hours a week for six months.

Volunteering at Encircle is a unique, fulfilling experience.

Volunteers play a critical role in supporting our mission to support the LGBTQ+ youth and enable them to thrive.

No sides, only love isn't just a motto — it truthfully represents what Encircle stands for, and is lived out by the staff and volunteers.

Encircle's work is extremely important — welcoming Utah's LGBTQ+ youth and their families into a community of understanding, love and support. The resources Encircle provides are remarkable and life-changing. I know my own life has been changed by getting involved. I only wish I could be at Encircle every day! I am so happy to be a part of such a wonderful organization. I absolutely love Encircle.

Nate Y, Encircle Volunteer

Every step of my volunteering here has been fulfilling.

The staff are great to work with, the other volunteers are good people with kind hearts. I truly feel lucky and blessed to be a part of things at Encircle.

— Andrew, Encircle Volunteer

Forming a much-needed, heartfelt, growing community is what Encircle is about.

Encircle saves lives and offers a tremendous range of programs to LGBTQ+ community members. The expansion to two more cities speaks to its winning formula, and the success of Ignite! to offer strength and support to at-risk populations is amazing.
